As far as pickups go, the Sierra Denali is one of the coolest and most powerful trucks you can find. It’s known for its extreme towing and off-roading capabilities, among many more. GMC, the General Motors sub-brand, continues to warm up to the EV segment. The brand plans on introducing more EVs in the future. The GMC Hummer EV already started retailing last year. Now, your favorite GMC Sierra Denali truck is also going electric!

Just last year, GMC made headlines when it showcased the all-new Sierra Denali EV. The 18-second teaser video not only gave us a glimpse of the future of Sierra Denali, but the future of the entire automotive industry. The Sierra EV is set to join the high-end Denali trim. This gives the brand a chance to expand and explore bigger markets. The EV’s production is starting sometime in 2023, shortly after the brand begins making the electrified Hummer SUV. The 2023 Hummer EV will start retailing sometime sooner - before the Sierra Denali comes in and steals the show.

The GMC Sierra Denali EV is expected to take the electric vehicle segment to a whole new level of production excellence. Also, production of the Sierra EV will start in mid-2023, and it will be followed by the electrified Silverado.

The Electric Sierra Denali Is All Kinds Of Cool

The short teaser video specifically highlights the front grille. At first glance of its front, the Sierra Denali EV looks like the current gas-powered model. From the styling cues, you could recognize it as a Denali. The Sierra Denali’s front end comes with amazing lighting technology, which gives the pickup truck a fiercer fascia. The dynamic lights keep our focus on the accentuated “GMC” lettering. This looks stylish and futuristic. On each side of the grille, the front-end features inverted L-shaped lights, which appear to frame the front end. They blend in perfectly with the grille light. The turn signals get a dynamic tri-lighting system and are very dynamic.

In terms of power, we’re expecting the GMC Sierra EV to offer a single 400-625 horsepower electric motor. Just like the GMC Hummer EV, the electrified Sierra will come based on the Ultium Platform. This means you should expect higher-end materials, maximum road capability – and anything you might expect from a premium truck. While not confirmed, the Ultium battery will offer different capacity levels. Each capacity level will also determine its driving range. But there’s no way to be sure about the driving range and EPA ratings. The drivetrain may consist of a standard rear-wheel-drive system. An all-wheel-drive system will be available, and will likely work with two motors. Inside, the EV version will take after its predecessors. It will feature standard navigation and smartphone compatibility, and many more.

As a high-end trim, it’s clear that the Electric Sierra will be among the most expensive models. We estimate the price of the Sierra EV to range between $70,000 and $76,000. This will make its closest competition, the upcoming 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning, a much more desirable option for the folks looking for a more affordable electric-powered pickup.

While more info about the electrified Denali hasn’t surfaced, the teased images portray a powerful and towing beast in the making. This upcoming Sierra EV is about to take over the electric market, surpassing many of its established counterparts. According to the GMC, the high-end Sierra EV is set to go into production in 2023. The brand will build the Sierra Denali exclusively at its Factory Zero plant in Detroit-Hamtramck. This isn’t the only EV produced at the plant. The brand also aims at beginning production of the Hummer SUV at the same plant from early 2023. In this case, the Sierra will come after the Hummer SUV makes its way down the production line, and subsequently, the market. The 2022 Hummer already made its way to the market, with deliveries starting in December 2021.

To top that off, General Motors will also produce the Silverado EV at the Factory Zero plant from 2023. This model will start selling in the spring of 2023 at a starting price of $39,900. At this point, we can only guess that the Factory will be at its peak busiest in 2023. And who knows? GM might set aside and dedicate its Factory Zero production plant to building its EVs. It’s not the only brand, and that wouldn’t be the first time we heard this. Recall, Ford completely canceled its popular SUV, the Edge, for the 2023 model year going forward. That’s because it plans on turning the plant into an EV-only factory. So EVs truly are gaining popularity, and slowly replacing their gas-powered counterparts. With the imminent Electric Sierra Denali, it's increasingly apparent, that electric vehicles are the future, after all.
