There are still a few manufacturers who have not succumbed to the seduction of SUVs. Some of them say they aren't interested because claiming it would dilute the image of their brand. Others simply lack the expertise. Quite a few SUV plans are already in the works by many luxury sport scar automakers. Even Lotus has revealed an electric crossover called the Eletra. Now a certain Italian manufacturer from Maranello has opened up to the idea of SUVs, something we were earlier promised would never happen.

We could never imagine a day when a Ferrari SUV would become a reality. According to Ferrari CEO, Benedetto Vigna, the Italian sports car company is preparing to unveil its first-ever luxury SUV, the Purosangue (meaning “Thoroughbred” in Italian), in the coming months. He also stated that Ferrari would announce two new models, after introducing four beautiful cars last year. On its official Instagram account, the Italian marque has hinted about the upcoming SUV. The new Ferrari Purosangue SUV would compete against other super sport-utility-vehicles like the Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin DBX, and the Porsche Cayenne.

Ferrari Teases The Purosangue SUV

The teaser image confirms some accuracy of leaked images of the upcoming model that we've already seen. The Ferrari Purosangue SUV teaser image depicts a beast-like SUV in red under dark illumination. ” You’ve heard the rumors… and we’re delighted to confirm they’re true (some of them). All will be revealed later this year,” The Ferrari Instagram caption reads. The Purosangue SUV, according to the carmaker, will be a “true game-changer.”

As for the design, Ferrari's alternative to the Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Bentayga has been spotted recently on the road in the least camouflaged form yet. The Ferrari SF90 and F8 Tributo supercars inspired the split headlamp design. Being an SUV, it naturally has a little more weight and heft to it. The Purosangue SUV will have narrow DRL lines and a minimalistic front grill, according to the teaser image. Details about the Purosangue are sparse for the moment. We expect detailed technical specifications of the SUV to be released when Ferrari officially launches the vehicle.

What To Expect From The Prancing Horse Stable

There have been many theories published on the Internet, as well as a few released spy images of the SUV. Other details regarding the car, such as the engine it will employ, are uncertain. But we know it'll be swift, and it will compete with cars like the Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin DBX, and Porsche Cayenne. In all likelihood, the Purosangue may use the 3.9-liter turbo V8 from the Ferrari Roma. A V12 SUV is unlikely to meet emission regulations moving forward. The Purosangue will almost certainly get an 8-speed twin-clutch automatic transmission. However, we cannot rule out the possibility of a hybrid powertrain for the Ferrari SUV. A hybrid system could be the solution Ferrari take to offer all-wheel-drive.

We truly believe the Purosangue could be a colossal hit when compared to its closest rivals. The Purosangue will democratize Ferraris and could elevate the brand to even greater levels. The Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne are proof of the same. While some purists might claim a Ferrari SUV is blasphemy, we enthusiasts believe that if Ferrari needs to make an SUV in order to make more awesome sports cars, it is a win-win for everyone.
