In 1970, Lamborghini’s then chief engineer Paolo Stanzani was tasked to lead a project code-named “LP112,” to build the successor to the groundbreaking and highly successful Miura. Four years after, the team unveiled the LP400 Countach. Boasting incredible aesthetics and amazing performance, the Countach swiftly became the ultimate wall poster for supercar enthusiasts of its era, in a production reign that lasted till 1990. However, 31 years after, the Countach is back!

An unprecedented resurrection, the new Countach, officially known as the Countach LPI 800-4, is a limited production supercar that pays homage to the original. Influenced by the past, but crafted for the future, the new Countach has been unveiled to the public on the 14th of August 2021, at The Quail Motorsport Gathering in California. However, while the supercar hasn’t yet been delivered to any of its owners, newer details about it keep filtering out nonetheless. Hence, we’ve brought you some.

9 Hybrid Powertrain

Insane power capability is one of the attributes of a supercar, and for the new Countach, Lamborghini went hybrid. Adopting the Sian FKP 37’s powertrain, the Countach is powered by a naturally-aspirated 6.5-liter V12, mounted in the middle of the supercar.

This is then complemented by an electric motor for a combined total output of 802 horsepower. Needing to put all the power generated into use, a potent seven-speed automated manual transmission handles the effective deployment of power to all four wheels.

8 Performance

Lamborghini has a knack for building some of the most awesome automobiles the world has ever seen, performance-wise. The new Countach, just like its other Lamborghini family of exotic cars, has effectively taken the performance baton

According to its Italian manufacturer, the Countach, courtesy of its hybrid powerplant, can accelerate from rest to 62 mph in a mere 2.8 seconds while getting to 124 mph will require 8.6 seconds. Also, the supercar has a maximum speed of 221 mph.

7 4-Wheel Steering

The new Countach is fitted with the brand’s top-of-the-range steering system called the Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS), with a variable steering ratio. It also features an impeccable synergy of the Lamborghini Dynamic and Rear-wheel Steering systems, for heightened control and stability at high speeds, and a more dynamic, top-level performance at low speeds.

Notably, the Rear-wheel Steering System regulates the rear steering axle using two electromechanical actuators, in response to input from the Lamborghini Dynamic system, all for an enthralling ride.

Like some recently built Lambos, the new Countach’s chassis is a carbon fiber monocoque complemented with aluminum frames both in its front and rear. This is then covered up completely in a full carbon fiber body, contributing greatly to the car’s extremely low weight.

Furthermore, the new Countach has a top roof component of electrochromic glass placed on a monocoque roof. Also, the supercar features electronically operated, heated, and foldable mirrors, while new electrically powered active aerodynamic is also incorporated into the body.

5 Interior

The new Countach’s cabin is greatly influenced by Sián’s. Nonetheless, Lamborghini still managed to give it a retro-touch, fitting it with exquisitely crafted retro-designed quilted red-leather seats. Having paid homage to the past, the Countach’s cabin also referenced the future through a state-of-the-art 8.0-inch HDMI touchscreen specially built for the supercar.

This infotainment system features a distinctive button marked as ‘Stile’ which when tapped, activates a pre-programmed history lesson about the Countach’s design.

4 Exterior

It’s easy to realize that the new Countach is a reincarnation of the old by merely looking at it. While all the body panels are made from carbon fiber, the supercar, however, features the unique wedge-shaped front fascia profile of the first LP400 production Countach.

Unlike the original version, the new Countach doesn’t have a fixed wing or visible aerodynamics, as active elements have been adopted instead. Furthermore, the new Countach features scissors doors, a carbon fiber diffuser, and quad exhausts, among others.

3 Production Number

In its first outing, about 2000 units of the Countach were produced by Lamborghini from 1974 to 1990. This relatively low production number makes the old Countach an extremely rare car today, and it’s also a hot prospect among collectors.

However, if the old Countach is considered to be rare, then the new Countach will be rarer. According to Lamborghini, only 112 units of the new supercar will be produced.

2 Price

It costs so much to own a supercar. This is due in part to its high maintenance cost, as well as the huge MSRP involved. And the story is the same for the new Lamborghini Countach.

While the price hasn’t been officially made public yet, however, it isn’t expected to drift too far from the price of the new Lamborghini Sian — the car that shares mechanicals with the new Countach. Reportedly, the new Countach is pegged at a $2.64 million starting price.

Walking into a dealership with stacks of cash and emerging moments later with a brand-new supercar only happens to supercar enthusiasts in the dream world or in video games. Realistically, no one decides to own supercars, instead, supercars choose their owners.

Serious gearheads know this as a fact, hence, they wouldn’t be surprised to hear that the forthcoming new Countach is completely sold out. Yes, they’re all gone, as reported by TopGear.
