It seems as if the auto market as a whole is moving upstream these days. This meaning that more and more luxury vehicles and performance vehicles are being demanded by customers. There are different tiers of luxury and some are not as saturated as others. In the case of supercars, it has always been relatively low volume, but still has seen a recent uptick in sales as demand has been going up.

As the desire for supercars has gone up. Exotic brands have been diversifying their portfolio to include new iterations of supercars like a Lamborghini Urus or the upcoming Ferrari Purosangue. McLaren has also increased the size of their lineup to include a variety of supercars for buyers to choose from. They have done this relatively fast too judging from the fact that in 10 years ago they only had one vehicle in their lineup – the MP4-12C.

Now that there is a myriad of McLarens to choose from, the question that begs to be answered is which is the best overall McLaren? Of course there are the extremely rare and expensive options such as the Elva and Speedtail but although they sit at the top of the McLaren hierarchy, they do not excel in usability and in some cases they are not even road legal.

On the other hand, we have the 2022 McLaren GT. It gives an exceptional mix of luxury, usability, and performance.

Here is what you need to know about what makes the 2022 GT the best McLaren to buy right now.

The 2022 McLaren GT Is A Grand Tourer That Lacks No Performance

Presumably McLaren gave the GT its name because it is aimed to be more of a grand tourer in the supercar world. This is not the first time that they have gone for a grand tourer approach either. In 2017 McLaren came out with the 570GT which was a grand tourer version of the entry level 570S. It brought more functionality and luxury to the 570 series by giving it actually usable trunk space and flashier rims. Items such as these have not been left out for the GT either. It provides these grand tourer niceties along with an upgraded Bowers & Wilkins sound system and a glass roof.

On the exterior of the GT, you can also see how McLaren has tried to style it with a different approach compared to its other vehicles that usually have what can be described as quite busy of a design. In contrast, the GT has a lot of rounded edges and smooth lines. It gives off a more polished look thus adding to its initial credibility as a worth-while grand tourer.

Even with all the added luxury and amenities that the 2022 GT has, it is no slouch when it comes to performance. After all, it is still a supercar at heart – that heart being a 4.0-liter twin turbocharged V8. This powertrain has an output of 612 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. With those kinds of numbers, it still allows for the graceful McLaren to rocket to 60mph from a standstill in only 3.2 seconds.

In comparison, the performance oriented McLaren 720S does 0-60 in 2.9 seconds. Although the GT is slightly slower than the 720S, it is still a mighty impressive number given that the GT has not gone to the aero and weight-saving extremes that McLarens like the 720S have.

The GT Gives You Daily Driver Qualities That Other Supercars Don’t

What’s the fun of a supercar if you don’t drive it? Or if it can be hard to drive at times? Despite the GT not being the most performance oriented McLaren out there, it does the best at giving great performance while still being capable of being a daily driver because of its more tame demeanor. The GT is the supercar that is meant to be driven.

It can take a corner at high speeds without the sacrifice of uncomfortable seats or giving up of nice features for the sake of weight. While still being a capable supercar, the 2022 GT still has subdued enough styling that it does not stick out as much as other supercars which some may like if they are driving it around more often than the normal supercar owner.

McLaren made the 2022 GT a standout among their lineup by blending all the right qualities together. You don’t have to make the sacrifices that you would normally think you would have to when owning a supercar. You can get a quiet and compliant ride while still having more than enough power to put a smile on your face.

For years, sacrifice has been the name of the game for supercars because of what you have to give up in order to get high performance numbers and exotic looks. Thankfully the 2022 McLaren GT has shown that we don’t have to make as many concessions as we initially thought.
