Ford is one of those companies that have experienced it all. It has had some of the highest highs in terms of success, but the automaker has also experienced some spectacular failures. Today, the company is pretty solid and seems to have figured out how to exist in the modern world despite being one of the oldest American car companies. One of the ways Ford is adapting and staying on top is embracing electric vehicles. The automaker isn’t new to the world of EVs, but it shocked many traditionalists when the Ford Mustang Mach-E was unveiled in 2019.

For those not in the know, the Mustang Mach-E is the electric version of the iconic Mustang. However, it's an SUV instead of the iconic pony car we’ve all known and loved since the '60s. These new changes are the main reasons the vehicle is often disrespected.

Despite the company's criticism regarding the Mustang Mach-E, it’s a pretty respected ride by people willing to give it a chance.

When many traditional gearheads think of power, they think of the glory days of the muscle car era. This was when hefty V8s powered cars such as the Mustang with large displacements, but things are changing. Now, automakers realize they can produce cars with comparable power but less harmful environmental effects. The new Ford Mustang Mach-E is an example of that more environmentally friendly method of achieving real power and speed.

The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E comes in four main trims, but the most common is the select model. This version is powered by one electric motor on the rear axle. In terms of horsepower, it has a max of 266. This crossover SUV has a torque of 428 lb-ft. However, this is, of course, a Mustang by name. People care that it’s a fast vehicle, even if it’s not intended to be a sportscar. According to Ford, the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E succeeds in the speed test and can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in only 5.2 seconds.

Range is essential for any electric vehicle, and the new Ford Mustang Mach-E is pretty solid in this category. This reimagined version of the Mustang has an EPA-rated range of 247 miles on a single charge. While there are other electric vehicles with superior ranges, this isn’t bad when the power and acceleration are accounted for.

The select trim is the base Mustang Mach-E, but the highest trim is the GT. This one has a horsepower of 480 and can accelerate from 0 to 60 in just 3.5 seconds. The GT trim has a range of 270 miles. This performance edition of the electric crossover SUV has an upgraded secondary motor.

One of the biggest reasons the Mustang Mach-E deserves more respect is that it has all the technology one could need, even for the base trim. The car has a 15.5-inch touchscreen display with everything from voice recognition to cloud-based connectivity. Beyond the infotainment system, this is also a very safe car. It comes standard with lane-keeping assist, rearview camera, pre-collision assist with emergency braking, and evasive steering assist, just to name a few safety features.

As for the look of the interior, the car was designed with style and comfort at the center. It features black onyx with both stitching and active X seating material. Buyers can also add the comfort/technology package. It features such updates as a heated steering wheel, power liftgate, and heated front row seats.

One of the biggest reasons the Ford Mustang Mach-E doesn’t get the respect it deserves is people not wanting to give the vehicle a chance. This is truly a great offering from Ford and serves as a representation of the future. The Mach-E is not meant to replace the Mustang as we know it, but it’s simply ushering the nameplate into the future while also fixing a problem that has always been present in the Mustang.

Many Mustang owners have complained about the lack of a backseat. Sure, most sportscars are two-seaters, but the Mach-E allows people who need more space to enjoy a modern version of the Mustang’s power. Of course, the Mach-E isn’t for everyone. Most fans of the Mustang will still want the two-door pony car, and that’s okay. However, what Ford and GM have accomplished with this all-electric version should also be respected.

The recent sales of the Mustang Mach-E also demonstrate an interest in the vehicle. While the car only makes up about 2.3% of the automaker’s total volume, its sales were up 23% from the previous year, according to Inside EVs. Only time will tell if the Mustang Mach–E continues its trend of success. Still, Ford seems passionate about its more electric future.
