Aston Martin put in another flavor in the hot SUV segment with the DBX. Powered by the Mercedes sourced 4.0L twin-turbo V8, the DBX produces 550 HP and 700 Nm of torque. This beast has all the bits one expects from an Aston Martin, such as stellar looks, fantastic ride, and handling, along with a plush interior.

The Aston Martin DBX is the first SUV ever produced by the British carmaker that had a lot of responsibility on its shoulders. The promise was to be a blue Aston which is part thriller and part gentle in its character. It stands to be a good alternative from the Lamborghini Urus and the Range Rover Sport.

The Aston Martin DBX looks spectacular. The design is classic Aston Martin, which is recognizable even from a mile away. The DBX stands 5,099 mm long, 1,998 mm wide, and 1,680 mm high. A traditional DB grill upfront is now scaled up to the size of a billboard to go with the car's size. It also happens to be the biggest grill ever fitted on an Aston Martin. The long bonnet with the tight-fitting roof makes sure the DBX looks a class apart.

At the rear, the boot lid of the DBX solidifies how one won't mistake it for anything other than an Aston. The LED light strip is the key highlight of its design which runs from the shoulder, gets integrated into the spoiler, and merges back into the other shoulder of the car. The twin exhaust tips add more to the car's character at the back. Towards the sides, the DBX looks sporty. It has all functional vents, and as standard, it offers 22’’ wheels which can be upscaled to 23’’.

The interior of the car feels like a leather boutique. The DBX has three different grades of leather available and digital dials along with a 10.25’’ screen. It, however, isn't a touch screen and is sourced from Mercedes, being operated by knobs and dials in the center console. The sheer level of quality is mesmerizing. Every touchpoint in the car is either leather or Alcantara. The attention to detail is immense, as even the side grab handles are quilted in leather and feel like they belong on a luxury purse.

The car’s Tech includes 64 colors of ambient lighting, a 360-degree parking camera, 3 zone climate control, an 800W sound system, and heated and ventilated seats as an option. Lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control is also available as an option. In terms of safety, the DBX has eight airbags, ABS, ESC, and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard. ADAS is an option one could add to the mix. The DBX caters well to the rear seat occupants, too, with comfortable seating for four since there is a transmission tunnel that hampers room for the middle passenger.

The DBX Has AMG Performance

The source of power for the DBX is the sensational Mercedes-AMG sourced 4.0L twin-turbo V8, which is a gem of a motor that is to be found under the hood of a whole host of AMG models. The unit powers the car from 0-60 MPH in 4.5 seconds and has a top speed of 181 MPH. The only available transmission option is that of a nine-speed automatic. The engine is very well-tuned by Aston Martin and gives the DBX a strong character with its punchy mid-rand and a strong top-end. The powertrain can send up to 100% power to the rear wheels, and the limited-slip differential decides what to do with that power. The steering feedback is superb, and this sports SUV comes closest in terms of ride quality to that of a low sports car.

The Aston Martin DBX is a beautiful car both inside and out. It is a statement of intent regarding luxury, performance, and practicality. Aston Martin has done their best in its first-ever SUV, and it reflects in terms of quality and, most importantly, how the car makes one feel. Starting at $176,900, the DBX is far from affordable. Rivals offer a better value for money proposition, but none of them can match the feel provided by the DBX. At the end of the day, it is not just a car or any sports SUV; it’s an Aston Martin.
