Officially known as the Mercedes-Benz MBUX Hyperscreen, and world premiered on the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS, the Hyperscreen is a stunning visual representation of where we are in both automotive technology and interior design. Featuring AI technology, top-quality OLED screens, and a gigantic surface area, this screen is like nothing that has existed before.

While it may be certain that other manufacturers will produce similar screens, Mercedes will be known as the first, and likely the best for some time to come. The Mercedes-Benz MBUX Hyperscreen is massive, spanning width-wise from door to door. Overall screen dimensions come out to a whopping 56 inches wide.

The Hyperscreen is made up of three separate screens, one for the driver, one for center stack duties, and a passenger-side-specific screen. All three of the screens are located under the largest piece of freeform glass surface ever put inside a Mercedes-Benz. That single outside layer of glass gives the Hyperscreen a flowing, floating design that makes it appear as a seamless single screen.

Zero Layer Technology Means Everything Is Where You Expect It To Be

Aside from a stunning 56-inch wide footprint, the Hyperscreen is packed with features to solidify its claim of being one of the most immersive in-car infotainment experiences available to date. Mercedes say they have employed the use of super-computer and artificial intelligence technology to bring the user a tailor-made experience, with the ability to change as rapidly as the user themselves.

Their new "Zero Layer Technology" means that the car will anticipate the items that the driver will need front and center. For example, Mercedes has learned through feedback from the last generation MBUX entertainment system that drivers clearly used the music, navigation, and phone features above all others. So, naturally, these live at the top of the screen.

What happens if you're a no-map kind of person? Always keen to go in the proper direction without help? This is where the MBUX Hyperscreen Zero Layer AI comes in, as it notices the items you use, it starts to move them away from the front.

All while also bringing up the most commonly used functions. Do you always turn up the heat when leaving work? The car will learn this and start to prompt you for the command at just the right moment. Mercedes is confident that the Hyperscreen is smart enough to figure you out, and it's here to make your life much easier and more enjoyable in the car.

Mercedes-Benz Hyperscreen Gives Some Love To The Co-Pilot

Aside from comfort, auto manufacturers rarely pay attention to the front seat passenger. You'd think that they would take the co-pilot a little more seriously, right? This is the person tasked with the full support of the driver, helping with directions, changing the music when needed, and much more.

Even if they aren't on full co-pilot duty, that passenger is very likely the second owner of the very car they're riding in. Doesn't that co-pilot deserve a better experience? Even the back seat passengers have their own screens as a standard feature in many cars.

With the expansive surface area that the Hyperscreen has to offer, Mercedes has decided that now is the time for passenger seat entertainment to have its moment. Dubbed the "co-driver display", users have options available to help change music, climate control, and navigation from their own equally impressive screen.

In some markets, the passenger can even watch their favorite movies and television, with an option to share that same content with the other screens in the car. Excluding the driver of course.

Here's How You Can Experience The Hyperscreen

Interested in all the tech that the Hyperscreen has to offer? Technically, if you have the means, you can go out and buy a new Mercedes EQS sedan and have this system all to yourself. The EQS has gotten plenty of praise from reviewers, but some have argued that its $105,000 starting price is choking sales of the car. One has to ask, could Mercedes put out a lesser-priced EV and still had the massive Hyperscreen?

We guess that the screen would have been among the first things cut from the production vehicle if Mercedes had gone into cost-cutting mode on the EQS. Especially considering that the only thing that looks even close to the Hyperscreen is the expansive screen in the upcoming $300,000+ Cadillac Celestiq.

There may be hope on the horizon for those looking to get this tech in a car that's a little more affordable than the EQS. Mercedes is set to offer four EVs in the next year. The EQS, EQS SUV, EQE, and EQB all hit varying markets and price points. Although only the EQS cars have the Hyperscreen at launch, Mercedes has always had a trickle-down approach to technology. We wouldn't be surprised to see this system move down the lineup over the next few years.
