Reservations for GMC's new electric pickup truck, the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, are now full. You can still join the waitlist for this $107,000 EV; however, it is safe to assume that getting your hands on one will be extremely difficult. That said, if you are ready to wait till the spring of 2024, GMC will start rolling out the Sierra EV Denali. Assuming that this trim will replace the limited-run Edition 1, it is worth considering if you are looking for a premium all-electric pickup.
Yes, currently, there are quite a few alternatives available in this segment, like the Ford F-150 Lightening and the Rivian R1T. However, the Sierra EV Denali can easily leave them behind in terms of offering luxury and practicality. Hence, there is more than one reason why it is worth waiting for the same.
The New Sierra EV Denali Will Be Seriously Powerful And Capable
The entire range of the Sierra EV uses GM's Ultium platform. The Hummer EV and the Silverado EV also pack the same underpinnings. However, in the case of the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, this platform gets two electric motors, one for each axle, giving this truck an electric 4-wheel drive configuration. GMC says that the power figures for this setup stand at 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque. These are enough to help this massive truck sprint from 0-60 MPH in 4.5 seconds.
GMC says that specific details related to the other models of the Sierra EV, in terms of their power figures, will be released nearer to their respective launch dates. However, in the case of the Denali trim, they are likely to be close to what Edition 1 offers. The same is going to be the case regarding the driving range. The Sierra EV Denali is also expected to cover a distance of close to 400 miles on a single charge, just like the Edition 1.
The Denali grade of the new Sierra EV will also have the capability of 800-Volt DC fast charging, allowing this truck's batteries to be juiced up at speeds up to 350 kW. Another feature this grade will have is GMC's power station pro which converts this truck into a mobile charging station offering 10.2 kW of power through 10 outlets. By adding a few more accessories and with the correct configurations, this truck can power your house for up to 21 days.
In addition, the Sierra EV Denali will have several other features that will make it seriously capable, not just off-road but in daily driving situations as well. For instance, it will come with multiple driving modes, including a dedicated Tow/Haul mode. This truck will also get four-wheel steering for a tighter turning radius, and it will even come with Hummer EV's 'Crab-Walk.' This truck will also offer on-pedal driving and multiple regen modes.
Despite having an electric powertrain, the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 has an impressive towing capacity of 9,500 pounds with a payload capacity of 1,300 pounds. Moreover, its Denali grade will likely offer equally remarkable figures in this area.
2024 Sierra EV Denali Will Have A Luxurious Interior
Another reason you should be okay with missing out on Edition 1 of the new Sierra EV is that its upcoming Denali trim will also offer a spectacular cabin experience. Both trims will have an identical interior layout and get a minimalistic design. In addition, the Edition 1 of the Sierra EV comes with open-pore wood inserts and aluminum and stainless steel accents. These are likely to appear in the Denali grade of this truck as well.
What's also going to make an appearance in the Denali trim is the 16.8-inch vertical touchscreen infotainment system. This unit will likely get wireless connectivity through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In addition, there will be an 11-inch horizontal driver's information display and a 14-inch heads-up unit.
Apart from luxury and technology, one other area where the new Sierra EV Denali interior will please its owners is practicality. This grade will come in a crew cab configuration and offer a 5-foot bed. In addition to this, you will be able to extend the bed length with the help of a 'mid-gate.' This feature drops the wall behind the second row to increase the truck bed into the cabin area. With the Multi-pro tailgate's load stop-open and the mid-gate down, the truck bed capacity increases to 11 feet.
The New Sierra EV Denali Will Keep You Safe
GMC is yet to share the complete list of safety features on the Sierra EV's line-up. But it has been confirmed that this truck will get GM's Super Cruise hand-free driving feature. This driver assistance tech allows hands-free driving on more than 400,000 miles of compatible roads across the United States and Canada. This feature includes adaptive cruise control, lane centering, emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and more.
