We all love modern cars, don't we? We're all always constantly looking at what's coming out next year, the latest car trends, and so on. It's all very cool, but if you're like us, you'd realize that, actually, it's about time we all start going back in time for our cars.

Sure, self-driving things and cars with huge screens in them are awesome, but what about a car with a proper manual gearbox? Classic cars are becoming increasingly expensive, so isn't it time you get one before they're all pretty much overpriced? Here are ten reasons why you need a classic car this year.

10 Better Driver's Cars

New cars are stuffed full of driving aids. From auto braking, park assist, etc. These make the car so much less engaging to drive. Take a Ferrari SF90 for example. It's a great car, make no mistake, but all that fly-by-wire stuff and the AWD system just makes it so much less soulful. Compare that to a 512 Testarossa from 1993, and you will see what we mean.

It's the same thing with normal cars too. The Ford Fiesta ST is a great car to drive. However, due to the fact it's a lot bigger, heavier, and crammed full of safety gubbins, it isn't as engaging to drive as a Fiesta RS Turbo from back in the day.

9 Easier To Fix

Not saying classic cars are more reliable than modern cars. Well, some are, but for the majority, they just aren't. What they are, though, is easier to fix. Modern cars are stupidly complex to work on thanks to things like the ECU, parts being crammed next to each other, all kinds of fancy tech, and so on. Most classic cars are simple to fix since they don't have heaps of technology making everything harder.

Take an old Mustang for example. They're a heck of a lot easier to work on than the new ones, and you can easily maintain and service them by yourself.

8 So Much More Fun

Older cars may not be as fast, but they sure are so much more fun. The feeling of them is different, and everything feels so much more nostalgic and alive. You just don't get that same feeling with modern cars whatsoever. Take an old E39 M5 with its 4.9 liter V8 and manual gearbox. The whole car is so engaging to drive and if you compare it to the modern F90 M5 you can see what we mean.

The F90 is faster, yes, but it's less fun. You don't even need to drive a classic car fast to have fun. The whole experience and nostalgia of them are so much more than speed and horsepower figures.

Everyone nowadays drives something modern (usually on finance) and in all honesty, it's pretty boring. Most streets are awash with white, grey, and black cars, mainly hideous SUVs and crossovers. Imagine driving through those streets in your classic car. Everyone will look at you as you stand out like a sore thumb.

Whilst everyone else is driving around in their Toyota Rav4s or their Nissan Altimas, you come along in a white 1995 SL500 Mercedes. How cool would you look? The answer is very. Classic cars are proper head turners and nothing else can compare.

6 Teaches You Different Lessons

A classic car teaches you life skills. Whether it's teaching you how to change spark plugs or really teaching you to be a bit more appreciative, a classic car is wise. Back in the day, people knew how to change the wheel on their car, replace the battery, do basic servicing, and what have you. The reason why is because they were forced to learn. Nowadays, these skills have become nonexistent amongst most people.

Classic cars also teach you to be more aware of your surroundings. They teach you to be more aware of what's going on with your car, too, and it teaches you to take better care of your car. With classic cars, your plan more on where to go, when to use it, and how you should drive. Sounds complex, but it does make you smarter.

5 Makes You Happier

Classic cars make you smile more. You could be a 50-year-old, but when you're behind the wheel of a 1980s C4 Corvette, you feel as if you are in your 20s. That sort of stuff that makes people happy since it gives them that feeling. That fizz. You could be a factory worker, but when you're driving your 1980s S-Class Mercedes, you feel as if you're a Mafia boss. A kingpin.

The way classic cars drive, as mentioned earlier, is also a lot more engaging. This makes them so much more rewarding, which makes you feel happier. It makes you feel as if you have achieved something, even if you've simply gone around a corner at speed.

4 Makes You A Better Driver

In a classic car, you're more connected to everything. Most classics don't have a lot of safety features, especially high-performance classic cars. Take a 930 Porsche Turbo for example. That's a car with little to no safety features, and it's also very wild to drive. Driving that car, you have to be more aware of what the car is going to do since it is so much less predictable. The same can't be said about the 992 Turbo.

If you want to go fast in a classic car, you have to be a good driver. There is no alternative.

3 Modern Cars Just Aren't The Same

Modern cars are packed full of technology that will blow your mind. The huge screens in the tiny Honda E, for example, or the driverless functions in the Tesla Model 3. That's all cool, but how about the stainless steel body on a DeLorean? Or the polished engine bay of a 3.2 V6 Alfa Romeo GTV? It's the little things, those details that these modern cars simply don't have.

Take the current Mercedes S-Class. It's a beast packed full of technology and leather. Yet, it's nowhere near as well-built as the overengineered w140 that was around twenty-five years ago. That's a car that took engineering to another level. Classic cars are also packed full of stupid imperfections to make them feel more human-like. These can be things like fitting huge bucket seats into a tiny car. You'd just never get that nowadays.

2 They Look Better

Modern cars look bland or disgusting. Take the new M3 for example. Its beaver grille and its over-the-top body kit are no match for the clean lines of an E36 M3, are they? It's the same with other cars too. Ford's lineup is 99% SUVs, and all of them look wrong. Ford in the 1950s and 1960s made some truly fantastic-looking cars, such as the Thunderbird, the Torino, the Cortina, etc. Even in the 1990s with the Focus, the Ka, and the Escort, things were just so much better. What on earth has happened?

Every car manufacturer nowadays is obsessed with making SUVs and crossovers that only appeal to tasteless people. Sure, these things do sell, but 90% of them are an eyesore. It's as if some of the world's best car designers from back in the day have been locked up in a cellar and replaced by people who don't know what a good car looks like.

1 They Sound Better

Modern cars don't sound great. Everyone is downsizing their engines, sticking on turbos, fake sounds, etc and all of that is sad. Classic cars are pure. They have real sound that comes from the engine. None of this pop and bang nonsense you seem to get with every performance car on the market.

Unfortunately, car manufacturers have to apply to the eco regulations, which make new cars sound pretty bad. At least with these classic cars, you can pleasure your hearing with proper noise. Music to a gearhead's ears.
