Various supercars have come and gone and yet the Godzilla of the automotive world—the Nissan GT-R—remains untouched. Various tuners have tried upgrading the GT-R and many succeeded, even tuning the Godzilla up to 2,400 hp. The Switzer Ultimate Street Edition (USE) is one of those packages and it's fitted on this 2015 Nissan GT-R. Was the upgrade worth it? This YouTube video explores whether that's the case.
A Blazing 165-MPH Half-Mile Top Speed
This 2015 Nissan GT-R with Switzer USE package was the subject of another straight-line test by Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds (JBPG). The GT-R actually had an earlier run covering a mile, in which the modified Godzilla managed to go as fast as 201.55 mph, with an average speed (over two runs) of 200.88 mph.
This time around, this modified GT-R underwent a half-mile straight-line test. It has less distance to cover, which means its top speed at the trap would be lower. However, a half-mile run is more applicable in real-time traffic than a mile-long dash. The result of the half-mile run? The modified GT-R posted a top speed of 165.745 mph.
A Modified Godzilla With 860 Horsepower
The mighty roar of the GT-R's engine before the half-mile run is already a big announcement of how the Gozilla would perform. To compare the 2015 Nissan GT-R Premium Edition—with its twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-6 engine—offers 545 hp of max output and 463 lb-ft of peak torque. This allows the Premium Edition to zoom to a half mile at a top speed of around 135 mph.
But the 2015 Nissan GT-R with a Switzer USE Package is a different monster. Its engine has been tuned to deliver 860 hp of max output and 750 lb-ft of max torque via a re-worked six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Aside from lowering springs, the Switzer USE Package endows the GT-R with lightweight Switzer Signature alloy wheels shod with performance tires.
Lives Up To The Godzilla Monker, Especially When Tuned
A 900-hp Nissan GT-R R35 managed to achieve a top speed of 171.09 mph in a half-mile contest in Germany earlier this year. Thus, when properly tuned, a Nissan GT-R can really become a true monster on the track.
