America is riddled with abandoned cars across its vast landscapes. Especially when traveling in what used to be, and in some places still is the old Wild West, you're probably more likely to see at least one abandoned car than not see one at all. Anything from your typical old truck that broke down 30 years ago and wasn't worth towing home, to massive military vehicles left abandoned for reasons we may not be allowed to know. Yet seeing what is probably the most iconic sports cars of the 1980s abandoned in a street for nearly two decades is truly something special unless you just happen to visit an airport parking lot in Dubai. This story doesn't take place there though, it takes place in Puerto Rico, where a Ferrari enthusiast named Leonardo has just rescued a low-mile 1988 Ferrari Testarossa.

A Dream Come True

Scott, who is from the YouTube channel Ratarossa, as well as many other automotive enthusiasts, eagerly followed this car's story for quite some time. So when the car was finally sold, Scott was eager to meet the person who bought it. Luckily, for the car and car community, it was purchased by a fellow Puerto Rican and huge Ferrari enthusiast who immediately started on the restoration.

Leonardo, along with his father, started by taking out the car's fuel tanks to remove the 17 year old gas and replace the fuel pumps. Then they started ripping out the interior, removing all the years of filth buildup from the car sitting neglected for so long. You even get a shot at a seemingly brand new set of seats and dash, although the video doesn't disclose if those are new or if they had been completely restored; they look great either way.

Next was the body work. You see Leonardo removing the windshield and front fenders with a butcher knife; not totally sure if that's the factory tool for the job, but either way it seemed to do the trick. With body repairs underway, the family crew then removed the rear subframe to make it easier to service the engine, replacing all typical maintenance items to give the 4.9L flat-12 a total refresh.

Significant Progress In Just One Short Month

Leonardo set a goal to have the restoration completed in three months. However, in just one short month, it appears as though things are going very well. The car already has had the engine refreshed and reinstalled, and a fresh paint job. It really is incredible to see the amazing work Leonardo has been able to do in a small garage on jack stands with only hand tools in such a short time.
