The 2021 Ford F-150 has been impressive so far with its technology and looks, not to mention it's newActive Drive Assist, which allows hands-free driving on certain highways. Now, the new F-150 can be optioned with a feature that allows Ford drivers to take a far more comfortable nap in the truck than ever before with the all-new Max Recline Seats.

Flat Seat Surface For More Comfortable Nap

Ford's Max Recline Seats is an all-new class-exclusive seating system that makes it possible for front occupants to sleep comfortably wherever their F-150s took them. It features a mechanism that lifts the rear half of the seat bottom up to 3.5 inches as the seat reclines back. When the reclining process is completed, the occupant can now lie down without the usual lack of support for their lower back.

Inspired by adjustable beds, these all-new Max Recline Seats also has cushions on the upper seat backs that can be moved forward for neck support. What makes the system more amazing is that it features a simple mechanism; without any additional  motors for their movement.

A Result Of Observing Customers At Work

Ford came up with this new feature after a dedicated "comfort team" observed how customers – especially in the construction and mining industries – needed a comfortable place to take a nap during their downtime.  Resting in the truck was also common during recreational activities. Ford's engineers then determined the best and simplest user experience, and created multiple concepts using hot glue, foam core and pins as well as actual seat frames.

After deciding on the most promising design, Ford's engineers created a fully functional metal prototype to further refine the motion and comfort of the seat. Once the refinements were completed, final parts were produced for assembly. In the development process, Ford secured five new patents related to its novel design and assembly.

Not To Be Used While Driving

The all-new Max Recline Seats will be offered on King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited F-150 models starting in 2021 model year.  For truck owners who appreciate their downtime, they will be quite the incentive to step up to  those upper models.  Of course, F-150 drivers shouldn't use these seats (in reclined mode) while driving.

For the moment, Ford is only talking about these seats as regards to the F-150, but we can probably expect to see them on other models in the near future.
