Texas-based tuning shop Hennessey Performance maintains a strong commitment to proving the potency of its performance upgrade packages. The company was among the first to promise a twin-turbocharged variant of the C8 Corvette, while it also made waves in the pickup truck world with the absolutely absurd VelociRaptor 6x6 version of Ford's off-roading F-150. But Hennessey seems to be struggling to actually release a twin-turbo C8 Corvette and higher-spec variants from the factory appear to be set for significant delays due to coronavirus-related slowdowns. The result is that a Hennessey-tuned C7 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is definitely the way to go for anyone looking to flat-out demolish a C8 in a straight-line sprint.

Turn It Up

In a new video from Hennessey's marketing department, a C7 Corvette equipped with the company's HPE850 package hits the strip alongside its mid-engined successor. The video is actually fairly hilarious, as the C8 is given a chance to take a running start and still ends up being smashed by its predecessor. It makes sense, though, as even on paper, the C8 seems a bit lackluster with only a max of 495 horsepower on tap from its naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8, no matter where it's been installed.

Of course, the balance and handling of a mid-engined layout are really why GM chose this route for the long-standing Corvette nameplate going forward, though it's still amazing to see (and hear) what Hennessey can do with the C7 Z06's supercharged LT4 setup under the hood.

All told, the HPE850 package promises 850 horsepower and 715 lb-ft of torque—and there's even an HPE1000 package on offer for the Z06, not to mention the HPE1200 package available for the C7 Corvette ZR1. But perhaps the most important part of this content drop from the Texas-based tuners is that they admit that "tuning for the C8 Corvette is still being sorted out..."
