Whether you are into classic Ford Mustangs or newer ones, you can't deny the impact of the brand on car culture. When Ford named their all-electric SUV the Mustang Mach-E, it showed the power and influence of the Mustang name.

With the reveal of the 7th-generation Ford Mustang just around the corner, looking at the Mustang's roots is always a good time. Even though the original Ford Mustang was an amazing car in its heyday, driving one now can sometimes be underwhelming.

Because of this, classic Mustang enthusiasts turn to restomodding. This is where you take modern parts and update the classic car to be faster, handle better, and give creature comforts that were never originally intended for the model.

A great example of a restomod comes from the YouTube channel, Garage Collective. A recent video shows off Matt Alcala's 1965 Ford Mustang with a newer generation Coyote 5.0-liter V8 under the hood.

The Perfect Ford Mustang Restomod

As the video starts, the host introduces us to Matt Alcala and his 1965 Ford Mustang. Matt is the owner of Best of Show Coachworks, an automotive restoration shop in Southern California. Matt gives a few details about the modifications on the car, but the main star of the show is the modern 5.0-liter Coyote V8.

A few visual modifications include a wide body kit, aftermarket wheels, and a duel tip exhaust down the middle of the car. It's not long before the two get behind the wheel to see what it can do.

Matt lets us know that this Coyote engine makes 550 hp. This is a huge increase over stock, especially considering the engine is not using a turbo or supercharger. With the restomod weighing around 3,300 lbs, the power-to-weight ratio is much better than the newer generation Mustangs.

While the car is clearly very loud, Matt lets us know that there are still resonators and mufflers in the exhaust system. The host then gets a few fly-by shots to hear the incredible exhaust note.

Matt then lets the host get behind the wheel. He first mentions how good the transmission is, which came out of a Shelby GT500. His minor complaint is due to the suspension which he calls "bumpy". However, he then says that's not a problem because he likes race cars. With the incredible performance, upgraded suspension, and glorious exhaust note, he is clearly having a good time.

He also acknowledged the fact that Matt basically built this Mustang all by himself. With that in mind, if you have the money to take on a project like this, there are not too many ways you could make a better restomod Ford Mustang.
