Marouane Bembli is a Swedish car designer known for his YouTube channel TheSketchMonkey where he makes videos re-designing cars on Adobe Photoshop. For his latest video, he came up with an idea, turning the Toyota Prius into a supercar. The Supra, which is Toyota's closest thing to a supercar, has been kind of a disappointment to enthusiasts. So why not make a supercar based on the Toyota Prius? Some people already gave the Prius supercar power by putting an 800 HP engine under its hood, but now TheSketchMonkey gave the Prius supercar looks. To achieve the supercar looks, the artist made numerous alterations to the design by removing back doors, making the wheels bigger, lowering the roof, and sharpening the lines for a more aggressive stance.

The Video

As usual with his videos, Marouane starts by talking about the design of the car, and what he wants to achieve with the exercise. In this case, he wanted to maintain the Prius's particular design language while turning it into a supercar. To accomplish that, he lowered the car, made it wider, longer, and eliminated the rear doors. The result is a very handsome coupe. However, we're not sure if it would qualify as a supercar since the proportions remind us of the Honda CR-Z and the Scion tC.

Everyone knows the Prius, and although the car community likes to make fun of it, this Japanese vehicle is one of the most important cars in Toyota's history. The Prius was the first mass-produced hybrid car, and it's the car that allowed this technology to go mainstream. There have been four generations since it was first introduced in 1997, and since then, it has grown from a single nameplate into a family of models.

Is A Prius Coupe Likely?

Toyota expanded the Prius family with the Prius V, a wagon/MPV, and the Prius C, a subcompact hatchback, and there's certainly more room for more models. However, the Prius name is linked to efficiency and practicality, and a sportscar wouldn't make much sense, especially in a time where people basically only care about crossovers.
